Search Engine Optimization and Machine Learning

Artificial intelligence has been one of the most important developments in technology since its inception. It started off as a machine language translation system, but today, it covers a much wider range of applications. We are able to utilize computers to process vast amounts of data, and do much more with that information. The only real limit to artificial intelligence is human imagination – until then, we will continue to help computers think and reason like humans.

While artificial intelligence has a strong potential for changing how we do business and what we do in our daily lives, there are some concerns. There is a difference between strong artificial intelligence and weak artificial intelligence. Strong artificial intelligence is the type which is so advanced that it can beat the human race at chess or create cars and airplanes that could fly across space. Weak artificial intelligence is typically associated with Internet scams, spam, malware and other online attacks. While these things definitely still happen, the concern now is not so much about strong artificial intelligence, but rather about weak artificial intelligence.

Currently, the biggest threat to artificial intelligence comes from hackers who use deep learning to attack websites and user profiles. Deep learning refers to the process of learning how to manipulate digital data without requiring the knowledge of an actual programmer. It was originally developed by Google and uses image recognition tools to allow machines to recognize images and text in a huge database, while saving the results in files called memory banks. When these images and documents are needed, they are retrieved from memory banks and used by programmers who are “programmed” to understand these deep learning tasks. The major problem with this type of artificial intelligence systems is the accuracy of results, as most computers don’t have the ability to save and recall the data accurately.

Another big problem with artificial intelligence comes from the field of search engine optimization, or SEO, where designers create search engine optimized sites for businesses. The sites are usually designed to rank highly in search engines like Google and Yahoo. The problem with many of these sites is that the designers typically only include a small amount of useful information, such as the URL, Title tags and Meta tags. Even when designers incorporate human factor elements into their artificial intelligence machine learning programs, such as questions designed to get the user more involved in the process, the result is usually too poor to be of much use to humans.

These are problems that machine learning developers must solve if they want to make significant improvements to artificial intelligence. Algorithms in general, and search engine optimization in particular, were always designed to be accurate. With the arrival of large databases and more computing power, algorithms are now much better at determining the relevance of different information and directing the appropriate web pages to rank well in search engines. This is not easy with today’s Internet marketing climate, where each website is competing for the attention of its users. Webmasters have turned to an array of different strategies to try to direct their traffic to their websites and keep it there long enough to earn money.

Search engine optimization is still the preferred method, as it still outperforms human intelligence in most of the tasks that it attempts. With this said, machine learning researchers are now trying to overcome some of the drawbacks of this approach by incorporating more of the knowledge and experience of humans into their search engine optimization programs. Machine learning has made great strides forward lately, but it is still not near as advanced as human intelligence. As technology progresses, artificial intelligence will only get better, making today’s Internet marketing techniques even more difficult to manage.
